‘Sophistication’ .
When I prepare to go in for a shoot at the studio I look through my art books, I look at images on line and think about what I could do in the studio. I aim for modern take inspired by an artistic past. The artist who inspired this image was Alphonse Mucha. I have always loved the art nouveau movement and went to see an exhibiton at the Walker gallery Liverpool in 2017. ‘Alphonse Mucha: in request of beauty’ .
In the studio I am aiming to tell a story. I work with Dave Severn and the model creating the image and lighting I need. I generally take three images of different exposures and then put them in a stack in photoshop and I paint using masks bringing out light and dark, I work on where I want detail or blur, once again painting that in. I aimed to achieve an illustrative image bringing out the model with perfect soft skin throughout, with details in features and dress. The subject is the model looking at the plant, the background is an out of focus drape. I enhanced the contrast in the plant painting in darkness and light and giving a sharp contrast to the dress. I have an Ezio screen and a canon imageprograf 300 printer. I have been on many courses and studied working in Photoshop and printing. I have a creative artistic background so drawing , painting, collage, sewing, many crafts is something I have always done. A very important part of my work is working with the print. So I do a print look at it and see how I can improve. How long do I take on each print. I need to be in the right frame of mind. When I am it is fantastic. It can take an hour or so other times I do a bit go away think come back do more and it can take months or days. Yes I spend a fortune on inks and paper!!
